Empty Boat CD
Available for purchase
Empty Boat first set course for Africa fifteen years ago to share songs to villages and townships and learn about water and sanitation. The inspiration for the lyrics were water and sanitation and the songs, partly in Portuguese, explore these pertinent themes."We believed in the power of music to transform, communicate, heal and educate, to open doors and to open hearts – and it did" Dean Brodrick says. Since then, "we have seen how the efforts and idealism of individuals can really make a difference".
The music has continued to evolve since this first trip with each Empty Boat musician adding their personality to the complex and multi-layered sounds of the new album. The music transcends genre and resounds with many different voices including birdsong and the innocent voice of a child. The crafted compositions are awash with spontaneity propelled by African and Brazilian rhythms, moist with unusual and exotic sonorities and harmonies, splashing with enthusiasm and positivity. The eclectic parts are cooked into a unique coherent and satisfying whole.
“What's important is the structure” says Dean “the bell pattern and the bass drum pattern; the bass line and the melody; the pace of verse to chorus; the counterpoint of guitar and keys; the interplay of warm to cool; empty to full. The album is a musical journey. A film soundtrack.”
Waitless will be officially released on the 27 October and launched at an event in London on World Toilet Day - 19 November 2008. It will raise funds for Pump Aid's African sanitation projects; for every album sold, £1 will go to the charity Pump Aid to provide sanitation for LIFE to one person.
